Anyone who says they love cleaning is crazy, or at least a little bit crazy anyway! Like who actually looks forward to laundry and scrubbing the lasagna pan? I can promise you it’s not me! I am always on the hunt for cleaning tips to help make housekeeping better, easier, less time consuming…
I have also come up with several ways to make housekeeping more enjoyable. Or at least suck a little less.
Yes. Really. Crank up your favorite playlist and get to moving. Something about focusing on your favorite music instead of the not-so-fun chores seems to make the time pass much faster.
There is no right or wrong music for this exercise. I usually just pick the soundtrack based on what kind of mood I am in. My current go-to is Imagine Dragons or some old school Yellowcard but since I am a bit eclectic I also have been known to listen to the Trolls soundtrack or even Pentatonic Christmas (even when it’s not Christmas!)
Growing up I always dreaded hearing James Taylor because that was always my mom’s go-to cleaning CD. It meant that I was going to get stuck picking up my room and there is nothing worse than trying to clean to someone else’s cleaning soundtrack!
This one is totally dorky BUT I love giving myself a set amount of time to complete a certain amount of tasks and seeing if I can beat my time. I currently use my Cleaning Schedule that allows me to keep my home clean for less than an hour per day but I LOVE those days where I can get it all done in even less time!
Free Up Your Days & Spend Less Time Cleaning
You can even get your kids in on the fun too. Set the clock for 10 min and see how many socks they can get matched up or how many tees they can put on hangers.
Use Amazing Cleaning Supplies
Does the smell of Windex get you excited? What about Dawn dish soap? Clorox? Yea, I didn’t think so.
I stopped using conventional cleaning products several years ago and switched to non-toxic products. The benefit of these type of products is that they don’t use harsh chemicals and most have amazing scents!
Originally my favorite non-toxic cleaners were Method. I still use these specifically for my bathrooms because who doesn’t love their tub and toilet smelling like Eucalyptus? Exactly!
I also really love Mrs. Myers. My absolute FAVORITE scent is radish, which is only out in early spring and I totally stock up on it.
When you have favorite cleaning products that boast amazing smells, yes, it is possible to get excited about cleaning something!
Organized Cleaning Stations
Getting everything perfectly clean only works if you have the proper tools to get the job done. I do not believe in one size fits all cleaning tools or supplies and you will never catch me cleaning my toilet with the same thing I clean my countertop with. Total different set of germs there! (If you have the same type germs in both places you may want to reevaluate your living situation!!)
Its also a total pain to be running all over to look for a certain product or tool when you could be getting the job done faster if you already knew where it was.
My solution here is to have a home for each type of cleaning you will be doing. Each bathroom has their OWN cleaning caddy with products just for the bathroom. It saves time having separate ones since you don’t have to lug them between each bathroom.
Create a cleaning station for your kitchen, laundry, and outdoor areas too. This would be a great place to try out those Amazon Dash Buttons too!
Savor your Success
Totally my favorite part. When you are done with a chore give it some notice. Give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done. Most likely no one else will admire your handiwork over that stain you got out of your daughter’s tutu or that you effectively removed all the stickers off your kitchen tiles. BUT it is still an accomplishment, so give yourself some credit.
Okay, Dance Party? Check. Cleaning Records Broken? Check. Floating on a lavender-scented cloud? Check. Feet kicked up enjoying all the spoils of your hard work? Check.
See, housekeeping isn’t too bad once you add a little fun and positivity.
