Summer is coming. In our house, that means Popsicle season. My kids and I have a serious case of the sweet tooth. What kid doesn’t though? During the summer iced treats become more of a daily indulgence. This means I become a little more diligent about making sure I am providing healthy options.
Homemade and Healthy
Yes, there are healthy options out there but I find it really easy to make my own popsicles for the kids.
I also love that I can control what ingredients I am giving my kids.
By making your own popsicles you can remove all the unnecessary added sugars, dyes and preservatives. You can decide where the ingredients come from and source local, seasonal and organic if you want to.

We have so many You-Pick strawberries, peaches, and blueberry fields in our area. It makes a fun day to take the kids to pick their own fruits and bring them home and make something fun and tasty out of them.
Grocery store bought products are totally fine too! My point is, you have complete control over what you put in your popsicles.
Tools to use
You need a blender to puree your fruits. I have a Ninja CT682SP Intelli-Sense Kitchen System and it is my absolute favorite kitchen appliance (don’t tell my Kitchen-aid Mixer). I really like to get my fruits blended. No fruit chunks for me. My husband, on the other hand, is totally cool with chunky Popsicle. If you are like me, just make sure your blender is up to the task!
You also need popsicle molds. In the past, I’ve gotten the cheap little dollar ones but really, the kinda suck. I stumbled upon these Tovolo molds recently and I LOVE them. The silicone mold makes it really easy to pop the treat out AND how dang cute are they!?!
My kids love helping me put the little legs in and creating their own little custom monsters and robots.
Also, not something that you would normally think about but the stand is great! It really helps to keep everything upright while it is freezing. You don’t have to worry about it tipping over if you shut the freezer too hard like you do with those cheapie plastic molds.
What to use
The options are endless! You can use juices, fruit purees, milkshake style mixtures. Whatever you can dream up.
I also like to just throw together any produce that’s about to go bad before we can eat it.
Here are a few of my favorite mixes.
Strawberry + Banana
Cranberry Juice + lime
Coconut Milk + Strawberries
Coconut Water + Pineapple + Strawberries
Peaches + Sweetened Condensed Milk (okay so this one is a ton of added sugar, sorry)
Ditch the store-bought, sugar packed, preservative loaded pops! Grab some cute molds and get your little one into the kitchen with you! I’d love to hear what combos are your favorites.
